The Weekly Stitch

Happy Monday to all of you!

Hope all is well with all of you.  Did you realize that Christmas is only two months away? Yikes - time to get started on those Christmas knitting and crochet projects. Anyone making Christmas stockings for the family? I thought I would but now find my project list too long. As always, too many projects, never enough time. But, don't forget to work in a little charity knitting/crocheting in between all of those gifts and personal projects. You'll be amazed at how your Christmas spirit abounds, knowing that you are making something for someone else.

Here is what is going on with YOH this week.

Meetings:
* Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney
* Wednesday - 6:15PM in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney

Ongoing projects:
* Hats, scarves, blankets, toys for Texas Oncology McKinney, UT Southwestern Moncrief Radiation Oncology Clinic and Medical City Children's Hospital.
* Preemie gowns, hats, sweaters and blankets for the LDR Unit at MCCH.
* We may be sending some children and teen hats to Sierra Leone after the first of the year.
* We are working on making contact with the NICU unit at the new Baylor Hospital in McKinney.

Finch Knitting/Crochet Club - We are in full swing with at least 12 excited boys and girls - it's amazing how quickly they are catching on after just two lessons.  We can still use more teachers though - there were only 3 teachers this past week and we could have used at least 4-5.  If you are interested at all, please let me or Becca Masters know.  You don't need to do it every week or be an expert knitter/crocheter to help.  You will also need to fill out a volunteer background check at www.mckinneyisd.net.

Take care and God bless,
Gina

So, I don't recommend this one, but I've discovered another way to get in a little extra knitting time - sitting home with your kiddo while he recovers from strep throat!  Not a lot of fun for anyone involved but you do have to stay home.  And, that's a great chance to catch up on some knitting (or, in my case, browsing the internet for my next project!).

Here is what is going on with YOH this week:

Meetings:
Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney
Wednesday - 6:15PM in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney

Ongoing projects:  Hats, scarves, blankets, toys for Texas Oncology McKinney, UT Southwestern Moncrief Radiation Oncology Clinic and Medical City Children's Hospital.  Also, preemie gowns, hats, sweaters and blankets for the LDR Unit at MCCH.

Yarns of Hope Bible Study is in full swing.  This week we will be discussing how we are created for risk.  We will be discussing how following our dreams and finding our purpose can be risky and scary but worthwhile and rewarding at the same time.

Take care and God bless,

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this wonderful cooler weather! Makes me believe that Fall just might be around the corner.

Meetings:
Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney
Wednesday - 6:15PM in the Connection at FBC McKinney (NOTE ROOM CHANGE!)

Yarns of Hope Bible Study started this last week. We had about 15 ladies who joined us, about half of which were new to YOH and knitting/crocheting. We had a great time getting to know each other and talking about what we will be doing this semester. This week, we will be starting the book and learning about God's purpose for each of our lives. Did you know that we can often our purpose by examining what we are passionate about?

Finch Knitting/Crochet Club - We have already been contacted by the 5th grade teacher at Finch, expressing interest in continuing the knitting club this year. For this to be a success, we really need at least 5 or 6 dedicated teachers. If you are interested at all, please let me or Becca Masters know. You don't need to do it every week or be an expert knitter/crocheter to help. You will also need to fill out a volunteer background check at www.mckinneyisd.net.

Happy Back to School!

Time to get back to school and all of our old routines - after all of the "relaxing" we all did this summer!  We've missed quite a few of you this summer so I can't wait to see you again now that summer vacation is over.  And, don't forget that fall and cooler weather is around the corner, which means that the demand for hats and scarves will increase.

Here is what is going on with YOH this week.

Meetings:
* Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney

* Wednesday - 6:15PM in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney (Regular Wednesday activities will resume this week, including Family Meal and children's activities.  There is also a special prayer service this Wednesday night for all FBC members.  We still have the room reserved for those of you who are not a FBC member or do not wish to attend.)

* Yarns of Hope Bible Study - will start next Wednesday, September 5th.  If you have registered and do not have a book, they will be available on the first day of class.  If you did not register and would like to attend, let me know as soon as possible.

The Weekly Stitch

Hello all,

Well, the Olympics continue as does the best excuse I know to beat the heat and cheer on our Olympians - while knitting and crocheting, of course. And, make sure you check out the Jo-Ann Fabrics grand opening on August 9-11! How exciting - a new place to shop for yarn and goodies!

Here is what is going on with YOH this week.

Meetings:
Upcoming Events:
  • Dallas Museum of Art Presents an Evening with Debbie Macomber - This event is a part of DMA's Arts & Letters Live series and is on August 15th at 7:30PM. YOH members get a special rate of $20 for tickets - just mention YOH when purchasing tickets online at www.tickets.dallasmuseumofart.org or call 214-992-1818. You can also pre-order her new book, The Inn at Rose Harbor, which is scheduled for release in August. There will be a group of us going so let me know if you would like to carpool.

  • Yarns of Hope Bible Study - This fall (September 5th), Yarns of Hope will be joining with FBC McKinney's Women's Ministry and offering a bible study on Wednesday mornings (childcare is available). Please note, however, that will continue to meet on Tuesday mornings the same as always. Beginning on August 5th, you can register online at www.fbcmckinney.com or in the Connection on Sunday mornings. We will be studying the Debbie Macomber book, Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern for Your Life. This study will give us a chance to explore God's unique purpose for each of our lives while still indulging in our favorite pasttime - knitting/crocheting/sewing for those in need of hope and warmth. This will also allow us to reach a whole new set of ladies that have either never heard of YOH or were not able to attend because of lack of childcare. If you are hesitant because you don't think you have time for one more thing- I chose this book because we will be reading only one chapter each week, no study questions, and then discussing the chapter on Wednesday mornings. The books may be purchased the first day of bible study or ordered online - try Amazon or Half.com. I believe both of those websites have great prices.
Ongoing Projects:
  • Same as always - hats, scarves, blankets, toys for Texas Oncology McKinney, UT Southwestern Moncrief Radiation Oncology Clinic and Medical City Children's Hospital.
  • Also, preemie gowns, hats, sweaters and blankets for the LDR Unit at MCCH.

Take care and God bless,

The Weekly Stitch / Field Trip This Tuesday

Those of you who come on Tuesdays know and love Ms. Bessie, Lynda Moore's mother. We have decided to meet at Orchard Park Assisted Living (where Ms. Bessie lives) next Tuesday morning. This will give us a chance to see her (she hasn't felt like coming to the church for our meetings for the past several weeks) as well as meet some of her friends there. What a great chance to fellowship with a whole new group of people!

Here are the details:

ORCHARD PARK ASSISTED LIVING

It is between El Dorado and the 121 access road, sort of east of Kohls and Texas Roadhouse, north of the McKinney Medical Center (or whatever it is called these days!), just to the north of the fire station behind Kohls.
We will meet there from 10-12 on the 2nd floor. The center will be providing refreshments for us.

Wednesday - 6:15pm in the Fireside Room at FBC Mckinney
All of our ongoing projects are the same. Let me know if you need any help, yarn, or patterns.

Hope to see you all there!

The Weekly Stitch

Good afternoon all! Hope you are having a great week! Here is what is going on with YOH.
  • Tuesday - 10 AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney. YOH will be hosting a World Wide Knit in Public (WWKIP) event during our regular meeting. Our meeting will be at the same place and time - we just may have some additional attendees because of the event. Because of that, we were thinking that we should bring some extra breakfast goodies to share. If you are able, please bring a breakfast item, paper goods, or utensils. If you want to bring paper goods or utensils, drop me an email so we don't have too many duplicates. Also, if you are not familiar with the event, check out the website. This is a world wide event started in 2005 by one lady. It has now grown to hundreds of events and extends over a week, instead of just one day!
  • Wednesday night - 6:15 PM in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney.
Current Projects:

The Weekly Stitch

Hello ladies-

This may be a long one because there is a lot of info to share about the next two weeks. So, hang in there, and keep reading!

VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR TOMORROW'S MEETING!! We will be meeting at my house (2512 Cayenne Drive) tomorrow instead of the church. The church building is closed because they are installing new HVAC units on the roof (this means bringing them in with helicopters and the whole bit!) So, we will meet here instead of canceling. Let me know if you need directions.

Wednesday night - 6:15 PM in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney. (As of now, we are okay to meet there - will let you know if anything changes.)

Next Tuesday, June 12th - YOH will be hosting a World Wide Knit in Public (WWKIP) event during our regular meeting. Also, if you are not familiar with the event, check out the website at http://www.wwkipday.com. This is a worldwide event started in 2005 by one lady. It has now grown to hundreds of events and spreads out over a week, instead of just one day!

Ongoing Projects: Same as always - just not taking the space to list out as the email I already long enough!

Take care and God bless! Hope to see all of you soon!!

The Weekly Stitch

Hello all,

Hope everyone had a great weekend and is enjoying the hot weather. Speaking of, with the warmer weather, it is time to switch to lighter weight yarns, especially cotton, for the hats and scarves.

Cancer patients still get cold during the summertime (esp. in the air conditioning) and they also need some sun protection for their heads.  However, they don't need the thick and fuzzy yarns that are so great during the cold months.  A lightweight acrylic or cotton yarn is perfect.

Meetings this week:
  • Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney
  • Wednesday - 6:15PM in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney
Summer schedule:
  • Our Tuesday meetings will stay the same.  If you have kids, bring them along.  For Wednesday night meetings, the Children's Ministry has cancelled our childcare for this Wednesday.  It will resume in August when all of the regular Wednesday night activities resume.  We WILL have meetings for most of the summer and I will let you know if there are any nights the building is closed.  Same as Tuesdays - bring the kids along.
Current Projects:
  • Chemo caps and scarves - for adults, kids and babies.  To be donated to Texas Oncology McKinney, Medical City Children's Hospital, and UT Southwestern Moncrief Center.
  • Blankets and knitted/crocheted toys - to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital.
  • Bereavement Preemie Items:   Gowns, sweaters, hats, and blankets to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital Labor & Delivery Department.  Items should be in pastel colors and sized for a 2 pound preemie.  Also, the nurses have requested 2 or 3 gowns or sweaters in a newborn size.  Let me know if you need help with patterns or sizing.
Have a great week and God bless each of you.

Have a great week and God bless each of you!
