The Weekly Stitch

Good afternoon, ladies!

Hope you have all had a great weekend and are looking forward to a blessed Easter weekend. Here is what is going on with YOH this week!

For you Tuesday morning ladies - come ready for a workday! I have 13 boxes of donated yarn in the back of my car (this is the yarn that Jennifer Stover picked up a month or so ago) and we need to store what we can at the church, clean out new storage area (hopefully!), and then find new places to store the rest (anyone have extra space at home?) Also, if you do not come to the Tuesday meetings, let me know if you would like some yarn or would like to store some for us. The yarn is a hodge podge of Red Heart, baby yarns, fuzzy worsted weights and many more. There is a good quantity of most of it so you could make a larger project with them.

Meetings this week:
Current Projects:
  • Chemo caps and scarves - for adults, kids and babies. To be donated to Texas Oncology McKinney, Medical City Children's Hospital, and UT Southwestern Moncrief Center.
  • Blankets and knitted/crocheted toys - to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital.
  • Bereavement Preemie Items: Gowns, sweaters, hats, and blankets to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital Labor & Delivery Department. Items should be in pastel colors and sized for a 2 pound preemie. Let me know if you need help with patterns or sizing.
  • Relay for Life - YOH will have a Relay team again this year. The event is on April 27 and will be held at Craig Ranch Ballfield. Here is a link to our page. You can use this link to either join our team, donate to the team, or purchase a luminaria in honor or memory of a loved one. .Be sure to sign up for our team - this is one of the most fun nights of the year!
Have a great week and a Happy Easter!

DFW Fiber Fest This Weekend

For those who are new to the fiber experience or to the area and looking for all the local scoop on knitting, crochet, looming and spinning, there is an annual festival for all yarn crafters and is scheduled for this weekend!

DFW Fiber Fest is in its 7th year of being a premier fiber event in the North Texas community. Teachers and vendors from all over the region are in attendance providing classes, showcasing yarns and materials, and providing inspiration for your upcoming project.  Fiber Fest is a non-profit organization where portions of their proceeds benefit local charities.

This is a weekend long craft-extravaganza that will be held for the 2nd year at the Grapevine Convention Center.

Several classes are currently full, however if interested, you can register and be placed on the waitlist.  If you do not want to attend classes, you can visit the vendor hall separately.  Entrance to the vendor hall is $2/day or $5/weekend.  Hours are 9:00 - 6:00 Friday/Saturday and 9:00 - 4:00 Sunday.

Fiber Fest is an event that you do not want to miss!  If you would like to carpool, please contact Jennifer Stover to coordinate (she is planning on attending Sunday afternoon, however other days and times can be scheduled.)

Hope to see you there!

The Weekly Stitch

Happy Monday to all of you!

Wow - spring just keeps on getting better and better!! This has been an absolutely gorgeous day that we have been blessed with! With the warmer weather, the need for chemo caps (as well as all of the things we make for the children's hospital) does not go away. Bald heads and sick ones still get cold, especially once the air conditioning kicks on. We might start thinking about switching to lighter weight and cotton yarns, but keep on cranking out the goodies - we still need them!!

Here is what is going on with YOH this week:

God bless each of you and the works of your hands,

Hello all,

Happy President's Day to all of you!! I probably wouldn't have realized that's what today is except that my boys were home today. We celebrated by going to the zoo - no knitting time there!! We had a great time and everyone was worn out, which does give me extra time to relax and knit! It's all about the knitting/crochet time, right?

Attention all of you ladies who sew!! We have about 15 boxes of fabric that was donated. This is a great opportunity for any of you who sew to have free fabric to work with!! Please let me know if you are interested and I will bring it to you.

Just two quick things in addition to our regular weekly update! One, we have been blessed with a new donation of yarn and fabric - 30 whole banker's boxes worth!! Wow doesn't even come close to expressing how exciting this is for our group. Just think of all the hats, scarves and blankets we can make with the yarn. And, for those of you who sew - just think about having free fabric to use to make baby/kids' quilts, rice warmer bags, and head scarves! For any of you who do sew, please let me know if you would like some of the fabric. Same goes for the yarn. Our storage resources are going to be stretched to the limits with this new donation so I would like to pass it out to all of you ladies as quickly as possible!
