Good morning ladies,
Looks like a rainy day in McKinney - and, you guessed it, a great day to stay home and knit or crochet! Yes, as I'm sure you have guessed - any day is a good day to knit/crochet, if you ask me!!

Here is what is going on with YOH this week:

Meetings this week:

• Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney
• Wednesday - 6:15 in the Connection at FBC McKinney (NOTE ROOM CHANGE!)

Current Projects:

• Chemo caps and scarves - for adults, kids and babies. To be donated to Texas Oncology McKinney, Medical City Children's Hospital, and UT Southwestern Moncrief Center.
• Blankets and knitted/crocheted toys - to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital.
• Bereavement Preemie Items: Gowns, sweaters, hats, and blankets to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital Labor & Delivery Department. Items should be in pastel colors and sized for a 2 pound preemie. Let me know if you need help with patterns or sizing.
• Relay for Life - YOH will have a Relay team again this year. The event is on April 27 and will be held at Craig Ranch Ballfield. Look for an email with more details later today. Be sure to sign up for our team - this is one of the most fun nights of the year!

Happy Monday to all of you!

Wow - spring just keeps on getting better and better!! This has been an absolutely gorgeous day that we have been blessed with! With the warmer weather, the need for chemo caps (as well as all of the things we make for the children's hospital) does not go away. Bald heads and sick ones still get cold, especially once the air conditioning kicks on. We might start thinking about switching to lighter weight and cotton yarns, but keep on cranking out the goodies - we still need them!!

• Bereavement Garments for Medical City Children's Hospital Labor & Delivery Department: I plan to deliver our first collection of gowns, sweaters, hats and blankets in the next week or so. However, we can still use more as this will be an ongoing project. Let me know if you need patterns as well as examples of what they are looking for.

Deliveries:

• I am planning a trip to the cancer center and MCCH either this Friday or next Monday morning. Let me know if you are interested in going and which day works best for you.

Hello all,

Happy President's Day to all of you!! I probably wouldn't have realized that's what today is except that my boys were home today. We celebrated by going to the zoo - no knitting time there!! We had a great time and everyone was worn out, which does give me extra time to relax and knit! It's all about the knitting/crochet time, right?

Attention all of you ladies who sew!! We have about 15 boxes of fabric that was donated. This is a great opportunity for any of you who sew to have free fabric to work with!! Please let me know if you are interested and I will bring it to you.

Hello there!

Just two quick things in addition to our regular weekly update! One, we have been blessed with a new donation of yarn and fabric - 30 whole banker's boxes worth!! Wow doesn't even come close to expressing how exciting this is for our group. Just think of all the hats, scarves and blankets we can make with the yarn. And, for those of you who sew - just think about having free fabric to use to make baby/kids' quilts, rice warmer bags, and head scarves! For any of you who do sew, please let me know if you would like some of the fabric. Same goes for the yarn. Our storage resources are going to be stretched to the limits with this new donation so I would like to pass it out to all of you ladies as quickly as possible!

Secondly, this week is Valentine's Day so bring a sweet treat to share to our meetings - why should the kids get to have all of the fun at their parties?!?

Good morning ladies!

Hope everyone enjoyed watching the Super Bowl last night - I personally didn't care much who won but I enjoyed the multiple hours of knitting while watching the game.

Be sure to check out our website at www.yarnsofhope.org - it has been updated at long last with our logo, some new pictures and a link to our blog as well as a link to a new online store with logo items. This store is a service provided by our website provider. We were able to create a few basic items with the YOH logo and they are now available for ordering by anyone. We do not make any proceeds from the sales but it's a pretty cool way to offer a few logo items without ordering in bulk to do so. Let me know what you think!

Hello all,

I have to say that in the 3 plus years since Yarns of Hope started on our mission, I have been overwhelmed many times - overwhelmed that so many of you ladies have joined our group and work endlessly to provide warmth and hope to those in need, overwhelmed that we have close to 100 ladies on our email list now, overwhelmed by the generosity of friends and strangers in supporting our group, and overwhelmed at all of the opportunities that God has brought our way to help others. This last month, though, I have been overwhelmed to the extreme once again. First, one of our dear sweet members, Sherri Jurak, asked that her friends and family honor her birthday with monetary and yarn donations to Yarns of Hope. The final total was $450 and 51 skeins of yarn. Impressive doesn't even begin to cover it. With these funds, we have already purchased a substantial amount of yarn to make more hats, scarves, etc. and there is still plenty left over for more yarn and supplies! If you haven't seen all of our great new yarn, be sure to come to one of our meetings soon. Secondly, just this last week, another one of our dear members, LaDonna Edwards, emailed to say that she had "quite a few" hats, scarves and toys ready to donate to our group. "Quite a few" turned out to be over 200 adult and children's hats, a whole box of scarves, and the cutest bag of hand crocheted toys you have ever seen. I had so much fun going through all of these offerings and sorting them before taking them to the cancer centers and children's hospital today. Also, the nurses and staff who received these items couldn't say enough great things about them. (I might add that items made by the rest of you sweet ladies were also delivered today and all were lovingly oohed and aahed over!) Thanks to both of you ladies, especially, and to the rest of you that continue to make Yarns of Hope the success that it is. Your hard work and dedication is amazing and such a blessing.

Wow - what a beautiful day we have been blessed with! Makes me want to start on spring and summer knitting projects. However, I have no doubt that we will be needing all of our warm woolies before too long. Which means that we still need warm hats for all of the chemo patients, too!

• Wednesday - 6:15 in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney (We will still be meeting even though most of the church will be participating in Concert of Prayer.)

• Chemo caps and scarves - for adults, kids and babies. To be donated to Texas Oncology McKinney, Medical City Children's Hospital, and UT Southwestern Moncrief Center.
• Blankets and knitted/crocheted toys - to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital.
• Knitting Club at Finch Elementary - Yes, we still need additional teachers. As of right now, there are 3 of us that are able to help regularly - which just isn't enough for 15 anxious and excited beginners. If you are at all interested, please let me or Becca Masters know. Any skill level is welcome and you don't have to commit to every week.

Also, we are very excited to announce that Kelli Phelan has opened her new store, Cape Cross Stitch! Please plan to join her at the Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, January 28th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cape Cross Stitch! Register for prizes and enjoy refreshments. All are welcome!
