Hello all,
Happy Thanksgiving to each of you! I pray that each of you have a wonderful holiday filled with friends, family, and lots of turkey!
I am so thankful for each of you and what you mean to our group - because of your love of knitting, crocheting and/or sewing, we are able to share hope, comfort and warmth with cancer patients and their families. Thank you for your dedication to our group.
Because it is the week of Thanksgiving, we will not be meeting this week. Our meetings will resume as usual on November 29th.
On November 29th, we will have a field trip to the yarn shop, Fiber Circle, in Farmersville. Please arrive at the church by 9:45 so we can depart before ten. We will carpool out there for a special time of shopping. Diane, the shop owner, will also have a craft available for us to enjoy. I'm so excited about this - hope you can join us. (Thanks to Lynda Moore for organizing this for us!)

Creative Ways of Donating
Sherri Jurak just turned 50 and wanted to celebrate the exciting time with friends that she loves. Sherri also wanted to celebrate this time by not only focusing on her but a group she is passionate for: Yarns of Hope. With a ministry dear to her heart, Sherri has contributed her time, materials, projects and actively promotes the group by adding the Yarns of Hope website as part of her signature in e-mails. Sherri wanted to continue to give to the group by requesting yarn and items be donated in lieu of gifts. An outpouring of yarn-related gifts arrived: 1 Crochet hook, 26 skeins of yarn, a $30 gift certificate to the Woolie Ewe and $345 to be used for purchasing more yarn and related materials!

The Weekly Stitch
Hey there, ladies,
So, I have some very exciting news to share with all of you - but, you have to come to one of our meetings to find out what it is!! (okay, I know not everyone can come to a meeting so i will ask Jennifer to post the announcement on our blog on Thursday so everyone will be in the know.) It's pretty great, though, so try to come to one of our meetings and find out what is going on!
Next week is Thanksgiving week and all YOH meetings are cancelled. I will try to send out a reminder but here is your advance notice!
Meetings this week
- Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at First Baptist McKinney
- Wednesday - 6:15PM in the Hospitality Room at First Baptist McKinney (NOTE ROOM CHANGE FOR THIS WEEK)
We can still use more teachers for the Finch knitting club. We had to cancel the club this last week because too many of us were sick or had conflicting plans. Please let Becca Masters or me know if you are interested.

We had a great 2nd week at Finch Elementary. All of the girls returned and are catching on unbelievably quick. I think they will be knitting their first project in the next couple of weeks! Very exciting. Of course, we can still use more teachers - so let Becca Masters or me know if you are interested.

The Weekly Stitch
Happy Halloween! Hope your Halloween was filled with lots of treats - especially chocolate covered ones! By the way, if you find your goodie bags filled with too many leftover treats, my son's school, Valley Creek, collects candy and distributes it to local nursing homes, fire stations, and various other places in exchange for free shoe certificates (donated by local dentists, then given to local children in need). This is a great program and fantastic way to get rid of all of the extra sugar. Let me know if you would like to help by donating candy and I will pick up.

Please forgive me for not quickly thanking you for bringing the knitted/crocheted hats recently. They are so beautiful and I have had probably 3 patients come by and request hats since you dropped them off. I continue to be awed by the volunteers who take the time to make them and I want them to know how their contribution makes a huge difference for our cancer patients. It remains a fun time for me to watch them go through them, trying them on, and pick the perfect one, two, or three! The looking and trying on brings good feelings to their day. So, please thank all of your volunteers again from all of us here at Moncrief!

Yarn Sales This Week
For anyone needing to replenish their stash, start stocking up for those big holiday projects or need to find the right yarn for the current project there are great deals to be had at the major chain stores in the area through Saturday, the 29th.
Michaels has several of their yarns on sale this week.

A cost-saver tip if you only need to buy one or two skeins at a chain store: wait until the week that they don't have the yarn on sale and use the 40-50% coupons at that time. You will save more that way. Another tip, you can use multiple coupons if you treat the items as separate purchases. I don't know the limit but I personally have had up to five separate purchases with coupons and they haven't kicked me out of the store yet!

Grandmother Congratulations!
Congratulations to Cindy Gramley on the birth of her grand-daughter, Ella Rose. She was born on October 8th at 7lbs., 5 oz. and 22" long. Mom and baby are doing great!

Finch Knitting Club
Ok ladies, we have an urgent need for teachers for the Finch knitting/crochet club. Even if you can only help every once in awhile, even if you are a beginner and aren't sure how to teach - we can use you!! Right now, we only have 3-4 teachers and 19 girls signed up for the club. We could REALLY use more help. This is a great ministry and I really don't want to cancel it but we may be forced to if we don't have more support.

It's The Great Pumpkin, Yarns of Hope!
Fall is certainly in the air with the temperatures lowering, daylight ending earlier and decorations adorned inside and out. Stores have been carrying fall-themed decor for months (and Christmas too but that's a conversation for another day.) I don't know about you, but I'm finally ready to stop ignoring the aisles and walk around in the corn-stalk and orange-leafed harvest wonderland in the craft sections.
One of my favorite reasons for celebrating this time of year (aside from rummaging through my daughter's candy bag for Butterfinger's and Twizzler's) is dressing up in warm and festive attire! Outfits become longer and layered, pastels make way for darker and earthy tones, and warm accessories becomes a newfound reason to pick up our sticks and make hats and scarves for ourselves, family and others in need.
Why not celebrate the season by making a pumpkin hat! It can be worn for at least two months out of the year, is a novelty among hat styles and will have people oohing and ahhing once you have told them that you made it yourself! So pick up your hook, needle and/or pick and let's make a patch worthy for the Great Pumpkin to come and visit.
The below patterns are geared for children but can be easily modified to fit an adult hat by using larger materials, thicker yarn and/or adding more stitches to fit the circumference of the intended wearer.
