The Weekly Stitch

Happy New Year!

Wow- it's seems really strange to say that!  Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's celebration.  We had a crazy Christmas with my whole family here at out home (lots of fun especially since my 90 year old grandmother was able to join us), and a quiet and relaxed New Year's spent at our lake cabin.  Now it's back to regular routines and schedules - a relief in some ways but sad in others.

Here is what is going on with YOH this week!

Weekly Meetings
  • Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at FBC McKinney
  • Wednesday - 6:15 in the Fireside Room at FBC McKinney (Regular Wednesday night activities will be resuming, including childcare, kids' program and Family Meal at 5:00.)
Ongoing Projects
  • Chemo caps and scarves - for adults, kids and babies.  To be donated to Texas Oncology McKinney, Medical City Children's Hospital, and UT Southwestern Moncrieff Center.
  • Blankets and knitted/crocheted toys - to be donated to Medical City Children's Hospital.
  • Knitting Club at Finch Elementary - the girls were off to a great start before the holidays.  I can't wait to see what they can accomplish this year!  We can still use more volunteers to teach as there have been a couple of times we have had to cancel because of lack of teachers.  It's such a shame to have to do that - which is why we can use ANY of you to help.  Any skill level and it doesn't have to be every week.
God bless each of you!

The Weekly Stitch

Good morning and Merry Christmas!

Wow - less than one week until Christmas! And, no, I don't have all of my shopping done. The boys and I plan to knock it out over the next couple of days - now, if I could just find time to finish up my last minute knitting projects.

Here is what is going on with YOH the next couple of weeks:

  • Last meeting of the year - Tuesday, December 20th, in the Hospitality Room at FBC
    McKinney.
  • No meeting this week on Wednesday night and no Tuesday or Wednesday meetings next week.
  • Meetings will start back as usual the week of January 2nd.

And, here is a thank you note to show how we spread Christmas cheer every day of the
year:

Just a note of thanks to your organization and the group of wonderful ladies who knit and crochet the beautiful cancer caps. Denise Kurtz (Member of In Stitches in McKinney
Meetup.com group) brought me three of them and I found them so pretty and well
done. I had one on my head immediately! I will wear them proudly, at least
until my hair grows back again - and that may take some time! If I happen to
bump into one of you and you recognize your hat, please stop me and say hi.
Thanks again. Corinne Lageose, Anna, TX.

Merry Christmas to each of you and I pray that you have a Blessed Christmas!

The Weekly Stitch

Merry Christmas, ladies!
I just love this time of the year - the twinkle of lights, the sparkle of decorations, the coziness of a warm fire, the snuggle of a favorite sweater (preferably hand knit or crocheted, right?) and, most important of all, the celebration of the birthday of Jesus. And, don't forget that we need lots of hats and scarves this time of year for the cancer centers - cancer patients feel the cold so much more than we do. Here is what is going on with YOH this week.

Meetings this week:
  • Tuesday - 10AM in the Hospitality Room at First Baptist McKinney
  • Wednesday - NO MEETING THIS WEEK! The church is sponsoring Mission Christmas this Wednesday night - where we go out into the community and share the joy of Christmas with others.
Upcoming events:
  • Christmas parties:
    • Next Tuesday (12/13) at 10AM, we will have our Christmas party at Susan Butler's home (Look for directions later in the week). Sign up for a brunch dish tomorrow morning or send me an email. Also, bring a $10 gift to exchange to the party - can be yarn related or not, homemade or not.
    • Next Wednesday (12/14) at 6:15PM in the Fireside Room at First Baptist McKinney, we will have a Christmas party for the Wednesday night ladies - no gift exchange but bring a sweet or savory goody to share.

Ongoing projects:
  • Chemo caps and scarves for both adults and children - donated to Texas Oncology McKinney, UT Southwestern in Dallas and MCCH oncology unit.
  • Blankets for MCCH - either a child-sized blanket or 12 x 12 squares which will be combined into a blanket.
  • Knitting Club at Finch - the girls and boys are doing great and are about to start their first project, however, we can always use more teachers. Contact Becca Masters if you are interested in helping.

Love you all,

Field Trip to Fiber Circle

The Tuesday morning YOH ladies had a fun treat in store last week. We went on a field trip to Farmersville to visit Diane at Fiber Circle! In addition to the opportunity of petting and stocking up on some great yarns, Diane had a craft for everyone to make; rosettes! With a little novelty netting yarn and a crochet hook, these cute little floral decorations were quick to stitch. Wear them on a lapel, with a headband, or even make a scarf or table runner with these floral motifs; there's no limit to the creativity!

We certainly hope to have the opportunity to make another trip to Fiber Circle soon!

The Weekly Stitch

Hello all,
Happy Thanksgiving to each of you! I pray that each of you have a wonderful holiday filled with friends, family, and lots of turkey!

I am so thankful for each of you and what you mean to our group - because of your love of knitting, crocheting and/or sewing, we are able to share hope, comfort and warmth with cancer patients and their families. Thank you for your dedication to our group.

Because it is the week of Thanksgiving, we will not be meeting this week. Our meetings will resume as usual on November 29th.

On November 29th, we will have a field trip to the yarn shop, Fiber Circle, in Farmersville. Please arrive at the church by 9:45 so we can depart before ten. We will carpool out there for a special time of shopping.  Diane, the shop owner, will also have a craft available for us to enjoy. I'm so excited about this - hope you can join us. (Thanks to Lynda Moore for organizing this for us!)

And, last but not least, you may recall I mentioned in my email last week about a surprise to be revealed at our meetings last week. In case you weren't there, be sure to check out our blog at http://yarnsofhope.blogspot.com/ for details about the big announcement!

God bless each of you!

Creative Ways of Donating

Sherri Jurak just turned 50 and wanted to celebrate the exciting time with friends that she loves.  Sherri also wanted to celebrate this time by not only focusing on her but a group she is passionate for: Yarns of Hope.  With a ministry dear to her heart, Sherri has contributed her time, materials, projects and actively promotes the group by adding the Yarns of Hope website as part of her signature in e-mails.  Sherri wanted to continue to give to the group by requesting yarn and items be donated in lieu of gifts.  An outpouring of yarn-related gifts arrived: 1 Crochet hook, 26 skeins of yarn, a $30 gift certificate to the Woolie Ewe and $345 to be used for purchasing more yarn and related materials!

Thank you, Sherri for your wonderful donation to Yarns of Hope!  We hope you have a wonderful time celebrating and embracing being 50!

The Weekly Stitch

Hey there, ladies,
So, I have some very exciting news to share with all of you - but, you have to come to one of our meetings to find out what it is!! (okay, I know not everyone can come to a meeting so i will ask Jennifer to post the announcement on our blog on Thursday so everyone will be in the know.) It's pretty great, though, so try to come to one of our meetings and find out what is going on!

Next week is Thanksgiving week and all YOH meetings are cancelled. I will try to send out a reminder but here is your advance notice!

Meetings this week
Finch Knitting Club
We can still use more teachers for the Finch knitting club. We had to cancel the club this last week because too many of us were sick or had conflicting plans. Please let Becca Masters or me know if you are interested.

Current Projects
  • Chemo caps and scarves for both adults and children - donated to Texas Oncology McKinney, UT Southwestern in Dallas and MCCH oncology unit.
  • Blankets for MCCH - either a child-sized blanket or 12 x 12 squares to combine into a blanket for them.
I love you all and wish you a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving! All of you ladies are truly something to be thankful for!

Very exciting. Of course, we can still use more teachers - so let Becca Masters or me know if you are interested.

The Weekly Stitch

Happy Halloween! Hope your Halloween was filled with lots of treats - especially chocolate covered ones! By the way, if you find your goodie bags filled with too many leftover treats, my son's school, Valley Creek, collects candy and distributes it to local nursing homes, fire stations, and various other places in exchange for free shoe certificates (donated by local dentists, then given to local children in need). This is a great program and fantastic way to get rid of all of the extra sugar. Let me know if you would like to help by donating candy and I will pick up.

Here is what is happening with YOH this week:

Meeting Locales
Finch Elementary
I am happy to report that we had a great first week at Finch Elementary knitting/crochet club! We had 10 excited girls and 5 teachers! Yes, God is good and He provided the teachers that we so desperately needed. Now, if you are thinking about helping or volunteered to help but didn't this first week, we can still use your help. It would be great to have enough teachers that we could rotate. I also know that we will have more girls to join the group and some teachers that can't teach every week. So, off to a great start but we can still use YOUR help!
